Land Acknowledgement
The City of Nanaimo is located on the traditional territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation. The Snuneymuxw People have been learning from, caring for, protecting, and enjoying the unsparing blessings of this sacred place since time immemorial, and they continue to do so today. The Snuneymuxw website states that “While fighting and prevailing against the weight of oppressive systems, Snuneymuxw has persistently prioritized community, Snawayalth, and the Land.” In recognition of the harms that oppressive systems have caused, including climate change, Nanaimo Climate Action Hub is committed to reconciliation as a vital means of ensuring that all of us can live in a safe and healthy world.
